For best results consider choosing a photo with the following qualities:

  1. Detail and sharpness - The better the quality of the photo you submit, the better the final painting will be. It can be difficult to try and create details that don't exist in the original photo, so try and get a nice sharp photo with plenty of detail.

  2. Focus on the eyes - As a general rule, the eyes are the most important feature in an animal portrait, so try and prioritise the eyes when focusing your camera and taking a photo.

  3. Personality - Look for a photo that captures the personality of your pet. As a tip, consider taking the photo at eye level with your pet, as this can help create a stronger connection with the final painting.

  4. Crop - When commissioning a headshot, try and avoid photos where the ears or any part of the head is cut off, as this can make it difficult to compose the painting. Similarly with full body paintings, try to avoid crops that cut off the animal at odd points, like the paws.

  5. Colour - When commissioning a realism portrait, try to choose a photo where the colours in the photo reflect the actual colours of the subject.
